MICROMOBI

Ref. number: 2023-1-MT01-KA220-ADU-000160242

Promimpresa is a partner of the  Erasmus Plus project MICRO MOBI: Mega Mobilising for MicroMobility (2023-1-MT01-KA220-ADU-000160242)

The project has a duration of 18 months, starting on the  1st December 2023 and ending on the 31st  May 2025.

Through the project and together with the project coordinator Friends of the Earth Malta and partners Friends of the Earth Cyprus and Ljubljanska kolesarska mreža (Slovenia), Promimpresa aims to develop skills and raise awareness on the topic of micromobility, small human or electric powered mobility devices suitable for short urban trips, in the partner countries Malta, Cyprus, Italy and Slovenia.

The MEGA MOBI project will result in a greater understanding of the need to promote cleaner means of transport such as micromobility amongst target audiences in the partner countries/cities, increased knowledge and skills of micromobility users to take actions for road safety for themselves and other vulnerable road users, and increased awareness among target groups about the needs of micromobility users as vulnerable road users.

What is micromobility?

It’s the answer to congested streets and pollution, offering compact, eco-friendly modes of transport for short-distance trips.
Micromobility encompasses most small one-person vehicles that operate at low speeds and are not gas-powered, from active modes like walking and cycling to skateboards, electric, bicycles and scooters, as well as wheelchairs.
Electric cars and e-motorcycles are not considered micromobility options.
Micromobility emphasizes the use of smaller, lighter vehicles that can easily manoeuvre through crowded areas and offer a more sustainable mode of transport for urban dwellers.
Micromobility gained popularity especially in the wake of global bike-sharing systems in the 2010s and more recently with the spread of electric kick scooters in cities around the world.
Micromobility was acknowledged as the safest mode of transport and commuting during the COVID19 pandemic.
Pop up bike lanes have transformed into permanent ones in some cities in Europe as part of the wave of transition to green recovery.
In essence, micromobility advocates for a shift towards cool, fast and green urban transport solutions.

Promimpresa as partner of the project MICROMOBI is  organising several events and workshops on micromobility use and safe road practices in our cities, tips for vulnerable road users, among other important topics.

Project objectives are:

  • To ensure an increase in the use of cleaner means of transport in terms of micromobility amongst target audiences in the partner countries/cities through the promotion of micromobility.
  • To develop skills of micromobility users for cleaner and safer transport
  • To educate micromobility users and other drivers about road safety and the needs of micromobility users as vulnerable road users

Concrete results:

  • Increased awareness among target groups about the needs of micromobility users as vulnerable road users, through then Awareness Raising Campaign
  • Increased knowledge and capacity of micromobility users to take actions for road safety for themselves and other vulnerable road users, through the material on the Online Learning Platform

Targets

  • Vulnerable adult road users
  • Other road users
  • Transport and urban planning professionals
