EW4RD – First Learning Mobility to Italy | Erasmus Plus Project

Promimpresa EUprojects is a partner of the Erasmus+ project for the exchange of good practices Empowered Women For Rural Development (EW4RD). In the framework of the project, Promimpresa has been the leader and host of the first Learning Teaching Training Activity (LTTA – C1). The activity took place in the mountainous and rural region of the “Madonie” in Sicily on november 10, 11 and 12, 2021.

The project

The EW4RD project focuses on supporting women entrepreneurs in agricultural systems in rural areas. The partnership is composed of applicant KDRIU (Hungary) e partners BASD (Bulgaria), Efektas Group (Lithuania), Innetica (Spain), Erbakan University (Turkey) and Promimpresa (Italy).

The training 

The aim of the training was to transfer to the participants an innovative approach to the development of the rural economy and to introduce and exchange good practices in the local communities in the participating countries, in order to build alternative models for income generation to be integrated into their work and mission, through the acquisition of knowledge, key skills and tools related to the rural economy and to the support of marginalised women living in rural areas.

Duration: 3 days (from 10/11/2021 to 12/11/2021)

Participants: 21 people from all partner countries, including: members of the project team and partner institutions; educators, trainers and trainers; aspiring women entrepreneurs and rural entrepreneurs; local leaders; representatives of local public authorities; members of other NGOs and local communities; students of environmental and agricultural sciences; other interested groups.

Methodology: the training was designed to combine learning sessions (including discussions, brainstorming, workshops, group activities, sharing through storytelling) and  study visits (including round tables with local stakeholders and government authorities; meetings with successful rural entrepreneurs and visits to local agricultural enterprises in the surrounding rural areas).

The activities

Day 1 (10/11/2021): The role of local authorities

The role of public authorities, policy makers and local actors in rural contexts: fostering cooperation among the public sector, local associations, the private sector and individuals. Roundtable discussions involving the managing authority of the Madonie, an association of young representatives of local municipalities, representatives of Slow Food and of the private sector (social cooperative).

Day 2 (11/11/2021): Re-discovering and valorising rural areas

Overcoming problems and using the resources available for rural entrepreneurship. The role of women in these areas and how they can empower themselves to undertake rural entrepreneurial actions. Study visit to Porto di Terra, community hub. Rediscovering natural spaces, indigenous plants and permaculture practices.

Day 3 (12/11/2021): Women entrepreneurship in rural areas

Roles, strategies, opportunities: examples of good practices. Study visit of Invidiata Farm: the production process “from animals to milk to cheese”. Visit of the facilities and observation of the activities.
